Chennai, Aug 3:
The Tamil Nadu Government plans to set up 12 mini taluk offices across Chennai to speed up the issuance of key revenue certificates and ease pressure on existing offices.
These mini taluks will function under current jurisdictions but focus solely on services such as community, income, nativity, legal heir and residence certificates. Officials say the move will reduce delays and improve accessibility for residents.
“On a pilot basis, 12 mini taluks have been identified to enhance citizen services,” a senior Revenue Department official said, adding that deputy tahsildars will oversee operations.
The offices are proposed in areas including Porur, Mogappair, Pallikaranai, Sholinganallur and Triplicane, among others, chosen to reduce crowding in major centres.
Each location will also feature an e-Seva centre, enabling faster, more convenient access to government services. The government is further considering delegating certificate approvals to additional officials to cut processing time.
The initiative, expected to be announced in the Assembly, is part of efforts to modernise administration and deliver quicker, citizen-friendly services in the city.
