DMK having tacit understanding with K’taka CM: Nirmalkumar

Chennai, Aug 3:

Accusing the principal Opposition DMK of creating hurdles in the Cauvery issue by having tacit understanding with Karnataka Chief Minister D.K.Shivakumar, Tamil Nadu Energy Resources and Law Minister CTR Nirmalkumar on Sunday reiterated that the State government would file a plea in the Supreme Court tomorrow after Karnataka refused to release waters as per the directives of the CWMA.

Talking to reporters at the airport here, the questioned the DMK’s move to hurriedly file a separate petition in the Apex Court seeking a direction to Karnataka to comply with the CWMA directive mandating it to release 3,500 cusecs of water per day for 15 days.

Though it was made clear that the government would move the Apex Court on Monday and has initiated the necessary legal process, the DMK hurriedly filing a separate plea was continuously trying to create obstacles by joining hands with Shivakumar to the TN government’s efforts on the key issue concerning the interests of farmers in delta districts, for whom Cauvery waters are the lifeliine for irrigation, Nirmalkumar said.

He observed that filing multiple petitions from the same State in the Supreme Court would create confusion and affect Tamil Nadu’s rights on the issue and sought to know how many petitions the DMK had filed on the Cauvery issue during the past five years when it was in power.

Taking strong objections to DMK President M.K.Stalin’s remarks that Chief Minister Vijay was left to stand isolated by trying to go solo on the Cauvery issue pointing to the all party meet convened by Shivakumar, the Minister said there was a covert understanding between the DMK and Karnataka CM.

He further alleged that both the families of Stalin and Shivakumar shared a cordial relationship that went beyond politics and the Karnataka CM rather than listening to the Congress leadership would listen to the DMK leader.
