Chennai, Aug 4:
Tamil Nadu Revenue and Disaster Management Minister K A Sengottaiyan on Monday expressed confidence that surplus Cauvery water released by Karnataka would soon reach the Mettur dam, stating that the State had formally sought water for irrigation needs.
Speaking to reporters after participating in the 221st memorial day observance of freedom fighter Dheeran Chinnamalai at Odanilai near Archalur in Erode district, the minister said inflows had improved across several reservoirs and many water bodies were expected to reach full capacity shortly.
Drawing a parallel between rainfall and governance, Sengottaiyan remarked that the arrival of Cauvery water during the Aadi Perukku festival period reflected positive developments under the present administration.
He added that Tamil Nadu was emerging as a leading State under Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and said the governmentās performance could even draw appreciation from the Union government.
On land administration, the minister said 1,730 surveyors had been appointed to address delays in land surveys and patta distribution, expressing confidence that the long-pending issue would be resolved within six months.
Ministers M Vijay Balaji, C Vijayalakshmi, S Kamali and D Lokesh Tamilselvan also joined Sengottaiyan in paying floral tributes to Dheeran Chinnamalai on the occasion.
