Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s final film Jana Nayagan has crossed the ₹300 crore mark at the global box office, achieving the milestone within just 12 days of its theatrical release.
The update was shared by members of the film’s promotional team, with actor Priyamani posting a celebratory poster highlighting the collection figures. Trade tracker Sacnilk has also confirmed that the film has surpassed the ₹300 crore gross worldwide.
Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan features an ensemble cast including Priyamani, Mamitha Baiju, and Pooja Hegde alongside Vijay. Despite receiving largely negative reviews from critics and a section of audiences, the film has managed to draw massive footfalls in theatres, underlining Vijay’s enduring star power.
Industry observers attribute the film’s strong box office performance in part to its positioning as Vijay’s final outing as an actor before his full-time foray into politics. The announcement appears to have significantly boosted audience turnout, with fans eager to watch the star’s swansong on the big screen.
According to trade reports, Jana Nayagan is only the third film to cross the ₹300 crore mark globally, placing it among an elite group of high-grossing Tamil films. However, Vijay’s earlier releases such as Leo (2023) and The Greatest of All Time continue to remain ahead in terms of overall collections.
The film is now expected to surpass the global earnings of Suriya’s Karuppu, which reportedly stands at around ₹310 crore, potentially making it the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2026.
Producers have expressed confidence in Vijay’s ability to pull audiences to theatres regardless of reviews, a belief that appears to have been validated by the film’s performance. The strong box office run highlights the continued influence of star-driven cinema, even at a time when audience decisions are increasingly shaped by reviews and word-of-mouth.
With steady collections continuing, Jana Nayagan is likely to set further benchmarks in the coming days, reinforcing Vijay’s legacy as one of Tamil cinema’s biggest box office draws.
