Union Ministers broke trust after releasing pics of my 26-day fast ending, says Wangchuk

New Delhi,  Aug 6:

Activist Sonam Wangchuk has alleged that Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh broke a promise by releasing photographs of him ending his 26-day hunger strike, leaving him disillusioned with political leaders.

Wangchuk said there was a clear understanding that no images of the midnight meeting, where he ended his fast, would be made public until leaders from Opposition parties and student groups were included in the announcement.

“The ministers had assured me the photos would not be released. But within minutes, they appeared on television,” he said, adding that even Intelligence Bureau officials present were witnesses to the agreement.

Wangchuk rejected claims of a “midnight deal” with the government, stating he had no interest in political bargaining. The activist, who began his fast on June 28 over NEET-related issues, ended it on July 24 after assurances on reforms were conveyed.

He said the episode has shaken his trust in political leadership across party lines.
