Chennai, Aug 16:
Former BJP state unit president and founder of the We The Leaders movement K Annamalai on Sunday alleged that some ministers in the ruling TVK government had started taking bribes and claimed to have audio evidence of the alleged transactions.
Speaking at an environmental awareness rally organised by his movement in Egmore, Annamalai urged Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay to take immediate action against the ministers. He said he was bringing the alleged evidence to the Chief Minister’s notice and asked him to keep the ministers in check.
On the Mekedatu project, Annamalai reiterated his opposition to the proposed dam while expressing confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said Modi should consider the problems the project could create between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and bring the two Chief Ministers together to find a solution.
Annamalai said his opposition to Mekedatu remained unchanged even after leaving the BJP, recalling that the Tamil Nadu BJP had opposed the project during his tenure as state president.
He also accused the Opposition of pursuing adjustment politics and attempting to destabilise the TVK government instead of allowing it time to function. Annamalai claimed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had asked him to move to Delhi and take up a responsibility for three years, but said he declined the offer as he preferred to remain in Tamil Nadu and serve the people.
