Chennai, Aug 17:
A 56-year-old policeman, who collapsed while performing the band during the Independence Day parade due to severe chest pain, died on Sunday morning.
The policeman, identified as A.Dharmaraj, suddenly fell unconscious while the band was performing during the ceremonial proceedings after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay hoisted the National flag at the ramparts of Fort St.George yesterday.
He was administered CPR in the ambulance and rushed to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital where he died this morning despite best of treatment.
Chief Minister Vijay expressed deep anguish and grief over his death and offered his condolences to the bereaved family members.
In a statement, he described his death as a big loss to the police department and his family and also announced a financial assistance of Rs 30 lakh to the cop’s family.
