Actor Shanthnu Bhagyaraj has announced his next Tamil film, titled Oru Kaidhiyin Diary, drawing its name from the 1985 classic written by his late father, K. Bhagyaraj.
The film will be written and directed by Suseenthiran, with actor-politician Seeman also part of the cast. Sharing the motion poster on social media, Shanthnu wrote, “With the blessings of my father, a new beginning.”
Set in Madurai in 2001, the film features Shanthnu as a police officer investigating the murder of a man allegedly hacked to death by Seeman’s character. The story is also expected to explore the issue of capital punishment.
Sam CS will compose the music, while Kannan Ravi is producing the film under Kannan Ravi Productions, with Deepak Ravi as co-producer.
The original Oru Kaidhiyin Diary, directed by Bharathiraja and starring Kamal Haasan, was released in 1985. Written by K. Bhagyaraj, it followed a newly released prisoner seeking revenge against those responsible for his wrongful imprisonment. Bhagyaraj later remade the film in Hindi as Aakhree Raasta, starring Amitabh Bachchan.
Oru Kaidhiyin Diary marks Shanthnu’s return to Tamil cinema after Balti (2025).
