Chennai, Aug 19:
The ₹621-crore Anna Salai elevated road project between Teynampet and Saidapet is likely to be delayed until February 2027 due to design and alignment issues identified during construction.
Engineers reportedly found differences between the approved design and the structures being built, including variations in the alignment of some pillars. Around 80 pillars between Saidapet and Nandanam have already been planned or constructed.
The four-lane elevated corridor, designed to be 14 metres wide, is also being built close to the existing Nandanam–Teynampet Metro alignment, requiring careful coordination.
The Highways Department is reviewing the design and alignment before work can fully resume. Further modifications could push the completion date beyond February 2027.
Once completed, the elevated road is expected to ease congestion along the busy Teynampet–Nandanam–Saidapet stretch of Anna Salai.
