Chennnai, Aug 20:
Nanganallur, known for its cluster of prominent temples, needs a well-regulated share-auto service to provide better last-mile connectivity for pilgrims and visitors. With thousands of devotees visiting the area, particularly during weekends, festivals and auspicious days, affordable local transport has become an important requirement.
The neighbourhood is home to several popular temples, including the Anjaneyar Temple, and attracts devotees from different parts of Chennai and neighbouring districts. Many visitors arrive by suburban trains, buses and Metro services and require convenient transport to reach the temples and surrounding residential areas.
At present, pilgrims often have to depend on private autos or walk considerable distances after getting down at nearby transport hubs. This can be particularly difficult for elderly devotees, families with children and people visiting Nanganallur for the first time.
Transport authorities could consider introducing designated share-auto routes connecting key railway stations, bus stops and major temples in Nanganallur. Fixed fares and designated pick-up and drop-off points could make the service affordable and prevent passengers from being overcharged.
With Nanganallur emerging as an important pilgrimage destination, improving last-mile connectivity would not only benefit devotees but also help ease traffic congestion and reduce dependence on private vehicles. A properly regulated share-auto network could provide a simple and practical transport solution for the area.
