Chennai, Aug 21:
Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran travelled to New Delhi on Friday following a call from the party’s central leadership, amid speculation over organisational changes and recent controversies surrounding his remarks.
Nagendran is expected to hold discussions with the BJP leadership on the appointment of new office-bearers and efforts to bring back supporters of former state BJP president K. Annamalai who have left the party.
Annamalai quit the BJP in June and subsequently launched the We The Leaders movement, which has reportedly been gaining support in Tamil Nadu.
Nagendran has also faced criticism from within the BJP over his recent remarks concerning Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. Actor and BJP leader Khushbu had publicly criticised the remarks.
His Delhi visit has therefore triggered speculation over whether the party leadership will seek an explanation from him over the controversy.
Nagendran had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Chennai on Thursday and welcomed him during his visit for the Southern Zonal Council meeting.
