Chennai,  Aug 22:

Tamil Nadu will give legal education and administration a major digital push, with the government announcing end-to-end online examination systems, a Tamil Nadu Code Web Portal and an Artificial Intelligence Centre for law students.

Replying to the demands for grants for his department in the Assembly on Friday, Law Minister R Nirmalkumar said Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University (TNDALU) would introduce complete automation of its examination process, covering registration, hall-ticket generation, valuation and publication of results.

The government will also establish a Tamil Nadu Code Web Portal to provide online access to State laws, rules, government orders and other legal documents.

Two-year LLM programmes will be introduced from 2026-27 at government law colleges in Chennai, Namakkal, Theni and Karaikudi, with two additional faculty posts to be created at each institution.

At the Tamil Nadu National Law University in Tiruchy, a new hostel with capacity for 606 students will be constructed, along with study rooms and other facilities.

The government will install RO systems in 12 government law colleges, benefiting 14,926 students, besides installing CCTV cameras for enhanced security.

The Law Department will also shift to an e-office system to facilitate electronic movement of files and reduce delays. Libraries in law institutions will be strengthened with additional legal resources.

A major initiative will be the establishment of an AI Centre at the School of Excellence in Law on the TNDALU campus, aimed at nearly 30,000 law students from TNDALU, government law colleges and affiliated private colleges.

An online system will also be introduced for issuing certificates to law students and teachers, while library infrastructure will be further strengthened.
