Chennai, Aug 22:
A 28-year-old history-sheeter was arrested for allegedly trespassing into a house in Velachery and sexually harassing a 25-year-old woman while she was asleep, police said.
The woman, who works for a private company, lives with her father in Velachery. According to police, the incident took place on August 20 when she was asleep at home.
The accused allegedly entered the house without permission and sexually harassed the woman. She woke up and raised an alarm, following which the man fled the spot.
Hearing his daughter’s screams, her father rushed to her and was informed about the incident. Shocked by what had happened, he accompanied her to the Velachery All Women Police Station, where a complaint was lodged.
Police registered a case and launched an investigation. CCTV footage from the locality was collected and examined as part of the probe.
Based on the investigation, police traced and arrested the accused, identified as Balusamy (28) of Velachery. Police said he is a known rowdy and history-sheeter.
Further investigation is under way.
