New Delhi, Aug. 24:
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) will hold a meeting of its national working committee on Monday to review the Centre’s assurances following the withdrawal of its nationwide agitation, while keeping open the possibility of launching another peaceful protest.
The CJP said the government had not formally communicated the steps being taken to implement the commitments made after its agitation was called off on July 25. The organisation said all options to secure fulfilment of the assurances would be considered at Monday’s meeting.
The organisation had withdrawn its agitation after the Centre gave assurances that FIRs registered against students and peaceful protesters would be withdrawn or quashed and that no punitive action would be taken against students and protesters in future.
The CJP had also sought compensation for the families of NEET-UG candidates who died by suicide following the cancellation of the examination in May over alleged paper leaks.
The issue gained renewed attention after the Supreme Court, on August 18, sought a consolidated list of FIRs registered against students and protesters across the country. The CJP said the Centre had been asked repeatedly to provide the list but had not committed to doing so.
The organisation accused the government of failing to honour the assurances on the basis of which the agitation was withdrawn.
It said its decision to call off the protest had been taken in good faith and warned that any attempt to delay, dilute or reinterpret the commitments would be viewed as a betrayal of the country’s youth.
The CJP has asked students, young citizens, supporters and volunteers to remain prepared for the outcome of Monday’s meeting.
