The maiden Question Hour of the 17th Tamil Nadu Assembly will commence on Thursday, Speaker JCD Prabhakar announced on Monday following repeated demands from DMK MLAs.
During Zero Hour, DMK members once again raised the issue and urged the Speaker to begin Question Hour, which is an important forum for legislators to seek answers from the government on issues concerning their constituencies.
Responding to the members, Prabhakar said Question Hour would be taken up from Thursday.
Under Assembly proceedings, the first hour of each sitting is generally allotted for Question Hour. During this period, MLAs can raise questions on various issues related to their constituencies and seek responses from ministers.
However, since the constitution of the 17th Assembly, Question Hour has not been conducted. The delay was reportedly due to departments taking time to provide replies to questions submitted by legislators.
The announcement comes after repeated demands from DMK MLAs for the restoration of Question Hour, which they said was essential for legislative scrutiny and accountability.
