Chennai, Aug 25:
A controversy erupted in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Monday after Milk and Dairy Development Minister C Vijayalakshmi accused a DMK MLA of making disrespectful remarks against Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and Industries Minister S Keerthana at a public meeting.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Vijayalakshmi said the remarks made by the DMK legislator were highly condemnable and urged Speaker JCD Prabhakar to take appropriate action.
The controversy reportedly centred on the MLA’s use of a singular form while referring to Industries Minister Keerthana.
Responding to the minister, Speaker Prabhakar said Industries Minister N Anand had also brought the matter to his attention personally. He said he would examine the speech and determine whether the remarks were disrespectful to the minister and the Assembly before taking an appropriate decision.
The DMK MLA, Durai Chandrasekaran, had made the remarks while addressing a public meeting. He reportedly criticised the Industries Minister’s claim in the Assembly that various achievements belonged to the TVK-led government.
Chandrasekaran said the projects and achievements referred to by the minister had actually been implemented by the previous DMK government.
The issue has triggered a political exchange between the ruling TVK and the opposition DMK, with the Assembly Speaker now set to examine the speech before deciding on further action.
