England and Australia are competing for the services of former Australian batter Mike Hussey, with both Ashes rivals keen to bring him into their coaching setup ahead of the 2027 series. England’s new red-ball coach Stephen Fleming has already approached Hussey, while Cricket Australia has also made contact with the former Test star.
Hussey’s strong relationship with Fleming is a major factor in England’s interest. The two worked together at Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, where Fleming has been head coach and Hussey has been closely involved with the franchise. Hussey also previously worked with England as a batting consultant during their successful 2022 T20 World Cup campaign.
Australia, meanwhile, sees Hussey’s experience and understanding of the national setup as valuable as it prepares for the Ashes. His calm approach and reputation for helping batters make him an attractive option at a time when Australia are looking to strengthen their batting department.
The next Ashes series will be played in England in 2027, with the hosts seeking to regain the urn for the first time since 2015. Hussey has not committed to either side and is understood to be considering his options.
