New Delhi, Aug 25:
Afghanistan have appointed opener Ibrahim Zadran as their full-time T20I captain for the upcoming three-match series against India, handing the 24-year-old batter his first international assignment as the team’s permanent T20I skipper.
The series, scheduled from September 13 to 17 in New Delhi, will see Afghanistan field a strong squad featuring several of their established stars. Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi and Gulbadin Naib are among the experienced players included, while fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq returns to the national setup after recovering from injury.
Naveen’s return provides Afghanistan with an important boost to their pace attack. He has been away from international cricket since December 2024 and his availability gives the side another experienced option against India’s powerful batting line-up.
The appointment of Zadran marks a significant leadership transition for Afghanistan. The right-handed opener has established himself as an important batter for the national side and will now be expected to combine his responsibilities with his role at the top of the order.
The three-match series will give Afghanistan an opportunity to test themselves against India while allowing Zadran to begin his tenure as captain against one of the strongest teams in T20 cricket. The series is scheduled to be played in New Delhi from September 13 to 17.
