Chennai, Aug 26:

Tamil Nadu can achieve its ambitious goal of becoming a $1.5 trillion economy with artificial intelligence emerging as a major growth engine, AI and Information Technology Minister Kumar said in the Assembly on Monday.

Speaking during the debate on the demand for grants, Kumar described artificial intelligence as one of the most important sectors for Tamil Nadu’s future, saying its impact would extend across all 54 government departments.

He said AI had the potential to transform governance, service delivery and economic activity by bringing together large volumes of information and enabling faster decision-making.

Highlighting an initiative in his Velachery constituency, the Minister said a dedicated application had been developed to help residents raise civic complaints without requiring knowledge of English or the ability to type.

Under the system, residents can record their grievances in their mother tongue, following which AI technology will automatically process the complaint and forward it to the appropriate government department.

Issues related to roads, electricity, drinking water and other civic services can be reported through the platform, Kumar said, adding that the technology would initially be implemented in Velachery before being expanded to other parts of Tamil Nadu.

The Minister also announced that the government would soon release a white paper on the functioning and administration of the Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation.

In another key initiative, the government plans to establish a new institution titled Tamil Nadu AI Vision to drive the State’s artificial intelligence strategy.

Kumar also said the proposed CM 2.0 Dashboard would be developed with AI assistance, indicating a wider effort to integrate artificial intelligence into government monitoring and administration.

The Minister’s remarks underline the TVK government’s push to position AI at the centre of Tamil Nadu’s economic and governance transformation.
