Chennai, Aug 26:
The National Commission for Women has recommended action against Tamil Nadu Opposition Leader Udhayanidhi Stalin over his controversial remarks concerning an actress during a DMK protest in Thanjavur earlier this month.
The controversy arose from comments made by Udhayanidhi at a DMK demonstration held in Thanjavur on August 3. The remarks triggered widespread criticism and led to complaints being filed under various legal provisions.
A case was subsequently registered against Udhayanidhi by the Thanjavur police. He was taken into custody and later released, according to reports.
The issue was later taken up before the National Commission for Women by TVK National Spokesperson Selvakumar, who submitted a complaint seeking intervention by the commission.
In his representation, Selvakumar urged the NCW to direct Udhayanidhi to provide an explanation for his remarks and issue an unconditional apology.
The complaint also sought appropriate legal action against the Opposition Leader.
Following the complaint, the National Commission for Women has recommended that the State Women’s Commission take suitable action in the matter.
The development adds another layer to the political controversy surrounding the remarks, which have already resulted in police action and strong reactions from rival political parties.
