Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 28:
Liquor sales in Kerala crossed Rs 770 crore during the first eight days of the 10-day Onam season, with state-run Kerala State Beverages Corporation recording a sharp increase in festive demand.
According to Excise Department officials, liquor worth Rs 771.29 crore was sold through Bevco outlets across the State till August 25.
During the corresponding eight-day period of the previous Onam season, sales stood at Rs 694.96 crore, indicating a significant rise this year.
On Uthradam day, August 25, a day before Thiruvonam, sales reached Rs 126.31 crore. However, this was lower than the Rs 137.64 crore recorded on the corresponding day last year.
In 2025, Bevco recorded total Onam season liquor sales of Rs 826.38 crore. Officials expect this year’s sales to surpass the previous season’s figure if the current trend continues.
Bevco, a Kerala government-owned corporation, handles the purchase, distribution and sale of Indian-made foreign liquor, beer, wine and imported alcoholic beverages in the State.
