In continuation of its sustained initiatives to strengthen the connect between the Armed Forces and the people, the Indian Army Headquarters Dakshin Bharat Area organised a specially curated Light and Sound Show at the Victory War Memoria here.
Following the encouraging response to the inaugural public presentation, the Light and Sound show will be conducted every Saturday for the public at the Victory War Memorial.
The initiative is expected to provide families, students, NCC cadets, tourists, veterans and citizens from Chennai and beyond an opportunity to experience the Nation’s military history in an engaging and evocative manner.
The impressive audiovisual presentation with Tamil subtitles in the Light and Sound Show was designed to create a deeper connect with the people of Tamil Nadu and enable a wider audience to experience the inspiring saga of India’s military history, a defence release said.
The initiative forms part of the continuing efforts to take the Armed Forces closer to the citizens, particularly the younger generation, and to foster a strong sense of patriotism, gratitude and national pride. Through such initiatives, the citizens are provided an opportunity to know the selfless service and supreme sacrifice of the Armed Forces, understand the heritage and traditions of the Defence Services, and draw inspiration from the courage and dedication of the nation’s bravehearts.
The Light and Sound Show presents an evocative narrative of valour, sacrifice and enduring legacy of India’s Armed Forces, connecting significant chapters of the Nation’s military history with its the contemporary role in safeguarding the sovereignty, unity and integrity of the country. The presentation seeks not merely to recount history, but to bring alive the stories of courage and sacrifice for succeeding generations.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation by members of the general public, school children, soldiers’ families, NCC cadets and tourists. The visitors appreciated the presentation and its Tamil subtitles, which enabled a more meaningful and immersive experience. The response reflects the growing public interest in understanding India’s military heritage and the sacrifices that have ensured the Nation’s peace and security.
The initiative is also aimed at strengthening civil-military fusion by creating meaningful avenues for interaction between the citizens and the Armed Forces.
By bringing the stories of India’s soldiers closer to the people, particularly the children and the youth, such initiatives seek to inspire a sense of duty, responsibility and pride in the Nation, while also motivating young citizens to consider a career in the Armed Forces and contribute to nation-building.
The Victory War Memorial, located at the iconic Marina waterfront near Fort St George, is being developed as a vibrant centre of remembrance, military heritage and public education. The precinct now provides citizens an opportunity not only to pay homage to the fallen heroes, but also to experience representative military artefacts and understand the evolution of India’s Armed Forces.
Among the prominent artefacts accessible to visitors are the decommissioned T-55 main battle tank, which represents an important chapter in the history of the Indian Army’s Armoured Corps, and replicas of the iconic Indian Naval vessels INS Anjadip and INS Vikrant. These exhibits provide a tangible connection with India’s military history, technological evolution and maritime heritage.
The replica of INS Anjadip also highlights India’s indigenous shipbuilding capability and Tamil Nadu’s significant contribution to the country’s naval and defence manufacturing ecosystem. The presence of these artefacts alongside the Memorial enhances the precinct as a place where remembrance, education and public engagement converge.
The transformation of the Victory War Memorial into a more accessible military heritage precinct is part of the larger outreach philosophy of Headquarters Dakshin Bharat Area to remember the fallen, honour those who serve, educate the present and inspire the future.
