Chennai, Sept 2:
The Madras High Court has directed the police and a regional chief manager of the State Bank of India to respond to a petition filed by Kayalvizhi, daughter of former Union Minister M.K. Alagiri, seeking quashing of a criminal case registered against her for allegedly slapping a bank manager in Chennai.
Kayalvizhi was booked by the Adyar police under four sections, including criminal intimidation, following a complaint that she had assaulted the SBI manager. She was arrested when she appeared for investigation and later released on station bail.
In her petition, Kayalvizhi contended that the dispute was purely civil in nature and had been given a criminal colour. She alleged that the bank manager had abused her verbally and that this aspect was omitted from the complaint. She also claimed that the complaint was lodged by a person who was not an eyewitness to the incident.
The petition came up before Justice G.K. Ilanthiraiyan. Counsel appearing for Kayalvizhi submitted that there was a possibility of an amicable settlement between the two sides.
The judge directed the police and regional chief manager Namachivayam to file their responses and adjourned the hearing to September 16.
