Chennai, Sept 4:

Opposition Leader Udhayanidhi Stalin on Thursday alleged that Tamil Nadu had gone into “reverse gear” during the first 116 days of the TVK government.

Participating in the Assembly debate on the demands for grants for the Police, Fire and Rescue Services Department, Udhayanidhi said Tamil Nadu had moved at “top gear” under the previous DMK government but had gone backwards under the TVK regime.

He cited figures in the government’s policy note to claim that crime and caste-related murders had declined during the DMK regime and thanked the government for acknowledging the earlier administration’s law-and-order record.

Udhayanidhi alleged that 10 honour killings, eight custodial deaths, 200 murders and 500 sexual assault cases had been reported during the first 116 days of the present government.

He criticised the government over what he described as unfulfilled electoral promises and accused it of focusing more on social media content than on governance.

He also questioned the government’s response to opposition criticism and urged Chief Minister Vijay to answer questions raised in the Assembly directly.

Udhayanidhi said the opposition had been given the responsibility by the people to question the government and seek answers on issues concerning the State.
