I’m Game is a stylish and energetic supernatural entertainer that blends humour, action, cricket betting and revenge into an unpredictable cinematic ride. Directed by Nahas Hidhayath, the film takes a bold route and refuses to settle into the conventions of a routine mass entertainer.
Dulquer Salmaan is the film’s biggest strength as Dan John, an affluent thrill-seeker whose arrogance and flamboyance make him an unconventional protagonist. The actor brings effortless charm and swagger to the role, dominating the film, particularly its highly engaging first half.
The story takes an intriguing turn when cricket betting, an accident and a transplant gradually converge with supernatural elements. The film makes excellent use of humour and larger-than-life situations, giving its supernatural portions an enjoyable sense of madness and fun.
Antony Varghese makes a strong impact as cricketer Vignesh, while Kayadu Lohar, Mysskin, Kathir and Vinay Forrt add strength to the supporting cast. The surprise appearance by Asif Ali is another enjoyable moment.
The action sequences are among the film’s highlights, with energetic fight choreography and the extended Dan-Vignesh confrontation standing out. Jakes Bejoy’s pulsating background score adds considerable punch, while Jimshi Khalid’s cinematography and Chaman Chacko’s editing complement the film’s vibrant visual style.
At close to three hours, the film does have some pacing fluctuations in the second half. Yet, its ambition, humour, performances and willingness to experiment keep the proceedings engaging. It explores betting, karma and revenge without becoming overly preachy.
Messy, eccentric and delightfully unpredictable, I’m Game is ultimately a refreshing entertainer that offers plenty of cinematic fun. Dulquer’s performance, the supernatural twists, energetic action and quirky humour make the film a worthwhile watch.
