Chennai, Sept 8:
The final report of the inquiry commission headed by retired Justice Gokuldas into the 2024 Kallakurichi illicit liquor tragedy will be tabled in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Tuesday.
The commission was constituted to inquire into the deaths caused by the consumption of illicit liquor allegedly mixed with methanol in Kallakurichi district on June 19 and 20, 2024. Several people died in the tragedy, which triggered widespread political controversy.
The Justice Gokuldas Commission subsequently conducted a detailed inquiry and submitted its final report to the government. The report is expected to provide details of its findings on the circumstances surrounding the tragedy and recommend measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The tabling of the report is likely to attract considerable attention in the Assembly, particularly amid the continuing political debate over the Kallakurichi deaths and the handling of the illicit liquor menace.
