Chennai, Sept 8:
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Manickam Tagore on Tuesday urged the Centre to immediately scrap the NEET examination, expressing concern over the impact of the medical entrance test on students and urging them not to resort to extreme measures.
In a message to students, Tagore said NEET was an unjust examination and appealed to students facing difficulties to remain strong. He said the Congress would stand with students and continue to fight against the examination.
“Do not ever take such an extreme step. Suicide is not a solution,” Tagore said, while calling for collective efforts to oppose NEET and seek its cancellation.
His remarks came amid renewed political debate in Tamil Nadu over NEET and its impact on medical aspirants. The Congress has consistently opposed the examination and supported Tamil Nadu’s demand for exemption from the centralised medical entrance test.
Tagore’s appeal also came against the backdrop of growing concern over the pressure faced by students preparing for competitive examinations. He urged students to seek support rather than take irreversible decisions.
The Congress leader reiterated that the party would remain on the side of students and continue its political campaign demanding the abolition of NEET.
