Chennai, Sept 9:
Communist Party of India (CPI) national general secretary D Raja was admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai on Wednesday for a health check-up, according to a statement issued by the party.
The CPI said Raja had been experiencing fatigue and was admitted for a comprehensive medical examination. The party clarified that his health condition was stable and that he was doing well.
CPI National Council member Dr G R Ravindranath, Raja’s daughter and National Council member Aparajitha, and State Council member Dr A R Shanthi were among those accompanying and assisting him at the hospital.
CPI Tamil Nadu secretary M Veerapandian, Tamil Nadu Energy and Law Minister C D R Nirmalkumar and Health Minister Arunraj visited the hospital and enquired about Raja’s health, the party said.
Raja, 77, has been serving as the CPI’s national general secretary since 2019. He is a former Rajya Sabha member from Tamil Nadu and has been a prominent leader of the party for several decades.
