Chennai, Sept 9:
The CPI and CPI(M) will not participate in the second meeting of the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led alliance partners scheduled for today, even as the two Left parties reiterated their continued support to the C Joseph Vijay government from outside.
The decision was announced separately by CPI State Secretary M. Veerapandian and CPI(M) State Secretary P. Shanmugam on Tuesday. They said the two parties were not part of the government and had therefore decided not to attend the meeting, and that their decision would be conveyed to the TVK leadership.
The meeting assumes significance as the TVK is expected to give a final shape to its alliance structure and decide on a new nomenclature for the Front. The ruling party has been holding consultations with its allies to strengthen the coalition ahead of the upcoming political battles.
The CPI and CPI(M), which have two MLAs each, had also stayed away from the first meeting of TVK allies held on July 1 for the same reason. However, both parties had made it clear that their support to the Vijay government would continue unconditionally.
