Vellore, Sept 11:
Three persons were killed and an equal number injured after the roof of an under-construction church collapsed near Katpadi in Vellore district on Thursday evening.
The accident occurred near Manju Krishnapuram, where construction work was underway for a church.
While the workers were engaged in the work, the first-floor structure suddenly collapsed, trapping at least six construction workers under the debris.
Acting on information, police and fire services personnel along with local residents initiated rescue efforts, rescued them and shifted them to Government Hospital for treatment.
According to reports, three workers were killed and the other were injured and were being treated at the hospital.
Senior police officials and district collector Leela Alex and Katpadi MLA Sudhakar visited the spot and monitored the rescue operations. Police and other officials were also present at the spot.visited the spot and monitored the rescue works and also called on the injured at the hospital.
