Chennai, Sept 12:
The DMK will stage protests across Tamil Nadu today condemning Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s remarks against DMK president and former Chief Minister M K Stalin in the Assembly.
The protests will be held at the headquarters of all revenue districts at 10.30 am under the leadership of the respective district secretaries. MPs, MLAs, senior party functionaries, local-level office-bearers and representatives of local bodies have been asked to participate in the demonstrations.
The DMK leadership announced the protests accusing Vijay of making derogatory remarks about Stalin’s political history, particularly his arrest under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) during the Emergency.
The party alleged that Stalin, who was 23 and had been married for only five months at the time, was arrested and subjected to custodial torture. The DMK said Vijay’s remarks in the Assembly had insulted Stalin’s sacrifices and were unacceptable.
The DMK also accused the Chief Minister of using the Assembly as a political platform to divert attention from the alleged failures of his government.
