New Delhi, Sept 15:
A Delhi court has convicted five men for rioting, obstructing public servants and assaulting police personnel during the 2020 northeast Delhi riots.
The case relates to violence at a petrol pump in the Bhajanpura area during the riots. The court found Arif Malik, Mohammad Khalid, Abdul Sattar, Tanveer Ali and Hunain guilty of offences including rioting and using criminal force against police personnel.
The five, however, were acquitted of charges relating to arson at the petrol pump after the court found that the prosecution had not established those allegations beyond reasonable doubt. The case arose from the violence that erupted in northeast Delhi in February 2020.
The court will hear arguments on the quantum of sentence before deciding the punishment.
