Chennai, Sept 15:
The DMK’s annual tripartite conference, scheduled to be held at the Kalaignar Arangam at Anna Arivalayam in Chennai on Tuesday, has been postponed following a sudden health setback suffered by party president and Chief Minister M K Stalin.
DMK general secretary Duraimurugan announced the postponement, saying the conference and other programmes scheduled for Tuesday evening would be held on a later date. The new date for the tripartite conference will be announced subsequently.
The conference is traditionally held to mark three important occasions — the founding day of the DMK on September 17, the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister and party founder C N Annadurai on September 15, and the birth anniversary of social reformer Periyar E V Ramasamy on September 17.
The event also features the presentation of several party awards, including the Periyar Award, Anna Award, Kalaignar Award, Pavendhar Award, Perasiriyar Award and M K Stalin Award. The list of this year’s award recipients had already been announced by the party.
Stalin’s absence was also noted at the Anna birth anniversary event held in Chennai. The postponement of the major party event comes at a politically significant time, with the DMK stepping up its activities ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
