Vijay in London to watch car race, DMK attacks CM’s visit

Chennai, Sept 15:
The DMK has stepped up its attack on Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay over his ongoing London visit, questioning the State government’s claim of attracting more than Rs 1 lakh crore in investments and alleging that the Chief Minister’s trip was more about watching a car race than wooing investors.
In an editorial published in its mouthpiece Murasoli, the DMK cited reports that new investment proposals in Tamil Nadu declined by around 74.5 per cent in the first quarter of 2026 and that the State’s national ranking in attracting investments had slipped from sixth to 17th.
The DMK alleged that foreign visits for attracting investments were normally preceded by several rounds of discussions involving ministers and officials, but claimed that Vijay had “suddenly” left for London. It questioned the presentation of the visit as an investment-promotion exercise.
The party also alleged that Tamil Nadu had suffered a setback in industrial investments after the change of government, while investment proposals increased in Karnataka, Kerala and West Bengal. It claimed that companies were moving towards Andhra Pradesh and blamed the cancellation of the Parandur greenfield airport project for potentially benefiting neighbouring States.
The DMK also questioned the TVK government’s claim of having attracted Rs 67,000 crore in investments and said such an achievement would have been widely showcased if the claim were fully established.
