Chennai, Sept 17:
The October 6 Assembly bypolls in Madurantakam (SC) and Dharapuram (SC) are set for five-way contests, with candidates from TVK, DMK, AIADMK, the Left parties and NTK entering the fray.
In Madurantakam, TVK has fielded Maragatham Kumaravel, DMK has nominated Parandhaman, AIADMK has fielded K Kanitha Sampath, CPM has nominated P Suganthi and NTK has fielded Janakiraman. A total of 48 candidates have filed nominations in the constituency.
In Dharapuram, the contest includes TVK, DMK, AIADMK, CPI and NTK, besides independents and other candidates. AIADMK’s K Bhanumathi filed her nomination, while CPI has fielded P Lakshmanan. The total number of candidates in the constituency has reached 39.
The nomination process is now entering its final stages. Scrutiny is being held on September 17, while candidates can withdraw their nominations until September 19. The final list of contestants and election symbols will be announced thereafter.
The five-cornered contests in both reserved constituencies have added another dimension to the October 6 bypolls, with the major Dravidian parties, TVK, Left parties and NTK competing separately.
