New Delhi,Sept 17:
India on Wednesday summoned Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires Saad Warraich and lodged a strong protest over the collision between a Pakistan Navy vessel and a frontline Indian Navy warship in the Arabian Sea.
The Ministry of External Affairs said the Pakistani diplomat was summoned over what it described as the “unacceptable and unprofessional conduct” of Pakistani naval units that led to the collision.
According to official sources, the incident took place on the evening of September 15 when the Pakistani Navy vessel Hunain approached an Indian Navy warship that was on a routine surveillance mission in the North Arabian Sea. The Pakistani vessel allegedly closed in at high speed and manoeuvred in an unsafe manner, resulting in the collision.
Hunain, an offshore patrol vessel, suffered heavy damage, according to Indian sources. The Indian warship continued with its assigned operational task and did not suffer any significant damage.
The incident took place in international waters. The MEA said the conduct of the Pakistani naval vessel was in direct contravention of Article 10 of the 1991 Agreement between India and Pakistan on Advance Notice on Military Exercises, Manoeuvres and Troops Movements.
India advised the Pakistani diplomat to convey to the authorities concerned the need for all military units to exercise due care at sea and respect the relevant agreements between the two countries to prevent a recurrence.
The Indian Charge d’Affaires in Islamabad has also been instructed to lodge a similar protest with Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The incident is the first publicly known military-domain incident between India and Pakistan since the four-day military hostilities in May 2025 following the Pahalgam terror attack.
