New Delhi, Sept 17:
India and the United States have agreed to strengthen cooperation under the US-India Energy Security Partnership, with a focus on clean energy, resilient infrastructure and emerging technologies.
Union Power Minister Manohar Lal and US Energy Secretary Chris Wright discussed the areas of cooperation during a bilateral meeting in Houston on the sidelines of the G20 Energy Abundance Ministerial Meeting, according to the Ministry of Power.
Lal also discussed India’s plans to develop power infrastructure to meet the growing requirements of artificial intelligence, high-performance computing and data centres. He also outlined India’s roadmap for expanding nuclear power.
During his visit, Lal met Canada’s Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Corey Hogan, to explore cooperation in energy efficiency, low-emission technologies and offshore exploration under the Samudra Manthan scheme.
The Union Minister invited Canadian companies to participate in India’s expanding exploration and production sector and deepen their engagement in emerging energy technologies.
Lal reaffirmed India’s focus on strengthening energy security through diversification of energy sources, expansion of clean and reliable baseload capacity and faster adoption of emerging technologies.
He said India would pursue a balanced and future-ready energy strategy while strengthening international partnerships to ensure secure, sustainable and affordable energy for citizens and contribute to global energy stability.
At the G20 Energy Abundance Working Group meetings in Houston, Lal highlighted India’s progress in developing a secure and resilient energy system. He also emphasised technology-neutral and inclusive energy pathways and international cooperation through initiatives including the International Solar Alliance, One Sun One World One Grid and the Global Biofuels Alliance.
He outlined reforms aimed at streamlining approvals and improving regulatory predictability through digital platforms such as the National Single Window System, PARIVESH and PM Gati Shakti.
Lal also stressed that efficient approval processes were essential for timely infrastructure development and called for greater G20 cooperation in capacity building and regulatory modernisation.
