Chennai, Sept 19:
Milk and Dairy Development Minister C Vijayalakshmi has directed officials to take immediate steps to address the reported shortage of Aavin milk in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu.
The Minister reviewed milk procurement and sales at a meeting held at Aavin Illam in Nandanam on Friday. General managers and deputy registrars from all districts participated in the meeting. District-wise procurement targets and achievements were reviewed, along with the functioning of primary milk producersā cooperative societies registered or revived this year.
The Minister also directed officials to ensure that payments and incentive amounts due to milk producers were made without delay through the Electronic Clearing Service. Measures were also discussed to increase milk procurement and sales.
The Minister instructed officials to ensure proper quality testing of milk and issue acknowledgement receipts to producers at procurement centres. She also reviewed veterinary services, artificial insemination, cattle insurance and cattle-feed supply.
The review came amid complaints from milk dealers over reduced Aavin supplies in Chennai and several districts. Officials were directed to take immediate measures to ensure uninterrupted supply to consumers.
