Chennai and adjoining coastal areas are likely to receive intermittent rainfall from September 19 to 23, according to the India Meteorological Department.
The weather department has also forecast thunderstorms accompanied by winds reaching 40-50 kmph at times. Rain activity is expected to continue over several parts of Tamil Nadu during the period.
Officials and residents have been keeping a close watch on weather conditions as the city enters the pre-monsoon period. The IMD has indicated that rainfall activity is likely to ease after Tuesday.
