Chennai, Sept 19:
Police investigating the alleged sexual abuse of minors by Gem Granites founder R Veeramani have identified seven more girls who were allegedly abused by the businessman, officials said.
The 84-year-old businessman was arrested on August 29 in connection with a POCSO case after police received a USB drive containing a video allegedly showing the sexual assault of a minor at his guest house in Teynampet.
Police said the statements of the newly identified survivors have been recorded before the POCSO Special Court as part of the continuing investigation.
The case was initially registered by the Anti-Vice Squad in October 2025. After an earlier attempt to close the case was rejected by the court, a fresh investigation was ordered.
A special police team subsequently identified the survivor in the original case and established that she was a minor at the time of the alleged offence in 2019. Veeramani was arrested along with two others, Shanti and her husband Mahendra Simhan.
The investigation is continuing and police are examining allegations involving other survivors.
