Chennai, Sept 19:
The Tamil Nadu government has ordered the establishment of six new government nursing colleges with a total intake of 600 BSc Nursing students.
The colleges will come up at government medical colleges in Namakkal, Tiruchy, Dharmapuri, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai and Tirunelveli, with 100 seats each.
The government has sanctioned Rs 270.26 crore for the six colleges, with the cost estimated at Rs 45.04 crore per institution. The expenditure will be met from the self-generated funds of Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University.
The government has also approved 1,925 additional nursing seats in existing institutions, including seats in DGNM, BSc Nursing, MSc Nursing and Post-Basic BSc Nursing courses.
A seventh nursing college with 60 BSc Nursing seats is also proposed at Coimbatore Government Medical College and ESI Hospital. The 600 seats in the six new colleges are expected to be offered during 2026-27, subject to statutory approvals and affiliations.
