NEW DELHI:
Domestic LPG consumers will have to complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) to book refills at the regulated retail selling price with applicable subsidy from October 1, 2026, the Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry has said.
According to the government, 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers, accounting for 89.9 per cent of the total, had completed the authentication as of September 19. These consumers will not have to undergo the process again and can continue booking refills as usual.
Consumers who are yet to complete the authentication can do so during LPG delivery, at their distributor’s showroom or through the mobile applications of the respective oil marketing companies. Indane customers can use IndianOil ONE, Bharatgas customers can use HelloBPCL and HP Gas customers can use HP PAY.
The government said the measure is aimed at ensuring that subsidised LPG reaches genuine and eligible households, while preventing diversion of subsidised domestic cylinders for commercial and industrial use. It is also intended to eliminate duplicate and ineligible connections and make subsidy delivery more targeted.
Consumers who are unwilling or unable to complete biometric authentication will still be able to obtain LPG, but without the subsidy. They will have to register their choice through the digital channels of their respective oil marketing companies and can receive cylinders at the applicable market price, subject to local availability.
The government had initially fixed June 30 as the deadline for completing the authentication and subsequently extended it several times. The final deadline was September 14.
