Chennai, Sept 21:
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay will hold a meeting with ministers and senior officials in Chennai on Monday to review the preparedness for the upcoming Northeast monsoon and measures to prevent rain-related damage.
The meeting is scheduled to be held at the Secretariat around noon. Collectors from the Delta and coastal districts will participate through videoconferencing. Officials from the Revenue and Disaster Management, Health, Electricity and Transport departments are expected to take part in the discussions.
The meeting will focus on coordinated measures to deal with possible rain and flood-related emergencies during the Northeast monsoon, which generally lasts from October to December. The Chief Minister is expected to review the availability of rescue equipment and personnel and the deployment of rescue teams in vulnerable areas.
Arrangements at relief centres, including electricity, drinking water and food, will also be reviewed. The government is also expected to focus on desilting water bodies, removing water hyacinth and encroachments, and expediting other preparatory works before the onset of the monsoon.
The Chief Minister is likely to issue instructions on repairing damaged electricity poles and towers and ensuring that all departments remain fully prepared to respond to emergencies during the monsoon season.
