Chennai, Sept 21:

Three years after a 55-year-old woman was fatally knocked down by a luxury car in Chengalpattu, a Chennai court has directed YouTuber Mohammed Irfan and the insurance company concerned to pay Rs 30.69 lakh as compensation to the victim’s family.

The deceased, P Padmavathi, was working as a security guard at a private institution in Kattankulathur. The accident occurred on May 25, 2023, when the car was travelling from Thanjavur towards Chennai along the GST Road. Near the Maraimalai Nagar municipal office, the vehicle allegedly hit Padmavathi while she was crossing the road. She died on the spot.

According to police sources, Irfan was travelling in the car at the time of the accident. Reports said the driver allegedly did not stop after the accident and was subsequently traced and arrested. The Tambaram City Police traffic investigation wing registered a case under Section 304(A) of the IPC relating to death caused by negligence and arrested Irfan’s driver, Azharuddin.

Padmavathi’s family subsequently approached the court seeking compensation. After hearing the case, the Chennai court ordered the insurance company and the concerned parties to pay Rs 30.69 lakh to the family.

Irfan, who became popular through his YouTube channel Irfan’s View, had married on May 14, 2023, around two weeks before the accident.
