Consumers seeking to continue receiving subsidy on domestic LPG cylinders will have to complete Aadhaar biometric authentication from October 1, according to the latest directive cited by the government.
The requirement has been introduced to ensure that subsidised LPG reaches eligible households and to prevent domestic LPG connections from being diverted for commercial or industrial use. Aadhaar-based authentication is also aimed at identifying duplicate and ineligible connections.
Consumers who have already completed Aadhaar biometric authentication need not repeat the process and can continue booking LPG cylinders as usual.
Those who have not completed the authentication will have to complete the process to continue receiving LPG cylinders at the subsidised rate.
The authentication can be completed through the mobile application used by delivery personnel during cylinder delivery or through the respective oil marketing company’s mobile application.
For Indane customers, the process can be completed through the IndianOil ONE app. Bharatgas consumers can use the HelloBPCL app, while HP Gas customers can use the HP PAY app.
Consumers who do not wish to complete Aadhaar biometric authentication will still be able to purchase LPG cylinders. However, they will have to pay the applicable market price instead of receiving the subsidy.
Such consumers can register their preference through the oil companies’ digital platforms, including their websites, mobile applications, WhatsApp chatbots and IVRS services.
Depending on availability, 5-kg or 10-kg cylinders may be provided to consumers who opt for non-subsidised LPG.
According to official government data cited in the report, 27.43 crore domestic LPG consumers had completed Aadhaar biometric authentication as of September 19, accounting for nearly 90 per cent of the total consumer base.
Public sector oil marketing companies are conducting awareness campaigns through SMS and WhatsApp messages, visits by delivery personnel, special registration camps and digital platforms to encourage consumers to complete the authentication.
The subsidy on a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder was ā¹210 as of September 2026. The government has stated that the authentication exercise is intended to ensure that the subsidy reaches eligible beneficiaries while also helping address the financial burden faced by public sector oil marketing companies.
Consumers yet to complete the process are therefore advised to finish Aadhaar biometric authentication before October 1 if they wish to continue availing themselves of the subsidised LPG benefit.
