Afghanistan’s innings had been built around contributions from several batsmen rather than one dominant individual score. Mohammad Ishaq’s unbeaten 25 from 17 deliveries provided late impetus, while Mohammad Akram and Karim Janat helped lay the foundation during the middle overs.
Japan’s bowlers had restricted Afghanistan to a manageable total, but Afghanistan’s spinners and bowlers then made effective use of the conditions. Japan struggled to maintain momentum during the chase and eventually lost all 10 wickets for 81.
Nangeyalia Kharote and Arab Gul were among the Afghanistan bowlers who played key roles in restricting Japan. Afghanistan’s disciplined bowling attack ensured that the Japanese side never came close to the required scoring rate.
The victory gives Afghanistan an important early advantage in Group A as the Asian Games cricket tournament progresses. The competition is being staged at the Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, with teams competing for places in the knockout stages.
