Chennai, Sept 24:
Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) president G K Vasan has announced his party’s support for the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam-led Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance in the upcoming Assembly by-elections in Madurantakam and Dharapuram.
In a statement, Vasan said the people of Tamil Nadu had brought about a change in the recent Assembly election and claimed that the new TVK government was working towards transparent and corruption-free administration. He said TVK president and Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay had given people confidence through the government’s initiatives.
Vasan said TVK’s acceptance of former Chief Minister K Kamaraj as its ideological leader and its stated commitment to good governance had created hope for a prosperous Tamil Nadu. He said the Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) would therefore extend its support to the TVK-led alliance in the two by-elections.
The Madurantakam (SC) and Dharapuram (SC) by-elections are scheduled for October 6, with counting on October 9. The vacancies arose after former AIADMK MLAs K Maragatham Kumaravel and P Sathyabama resigned and joined the TVK. Both have been fielded by the TVK again in their respective constituencies.
