Indian long-distance runner Gulveer Singh clinched the silver medal in the men’s 10,000m at the Asian Games, clocking 28:29.38 seconds on Friday.
Gulveer stayed with the leading group for most of the race before making his move in the closing stages. He held on to finish second and improve on the bronze medal he won in the same event at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.
Gulveer said he was delighted with the silver and credited his preparation and race plan for the performance. He said the focus was on remaining relaxed, staying with the lead group and making his move at the right moment rather than chasing a particular timing.
The medal adds to an impressive 2026 season for Gulveer and gives India another podium finish in athletics at the ongoing Asian Games. He said he would continue working on small improvements with the support of the Athletics Federation of India and the Inspire Institute of Sport.
