Nagoya, Sept 28:
India made a winning start to their men’s volleyball campaign at the Asian Games, defeating Vietnam 3-0 in their opening Pool C match at Park Arena Komaki in Nagoya on Sunday.
The Indian team produced a controlled performance to register a straight-set victory and begin its campaign on a positive note.
India won the match 25-23, 25-21, 25-20, completing the contest in one hour and 24 minutes. Vietnam stayed competitive during the opening set, but India held its nerve at the crucial stages to take the lead. The Indian players then built on that advantage and maintained control through the second and third sets.
The victory gives India an important early advantage in Pool C. The team will face Hong Kong on Monday in its second pool match before taking on Qatar on Tuesday in its final league encounter.
India will be looking to maintain the momentum from the opening victory as the pool-stage competition progresses.
With two more matches scheduled in quick succession, consistency and recovery will be important for the Indian players as they seek to advance further in the Asian Games volleyball competition.
