Chennai, Sept 29:
Property owners in Chennai have been advised to pay their property tax for the first half of the 2026-27 financial year by September 30 to avoid the applicable penalty.
The Greater Chennai Corporation collects property tax twice a year through its Revenue and Finance Department. Property tax, along with licence fees and other taxes, forms an important source of revenue for the civic body.
September 30 is the last date for making payment for the first half of the current financial year without penalty.
Property owners who fail to pay the tax within the prescribed deadline will have to pay interest at the rate of 1% per month on the outstanding amount, according to the information released by the civic body.
Payments can be made directly at Greater Chennai Corporation zonal and ward offices. Residents can also make payments through the Corporation’s official website, mobile application, WhatsApp service and QR-code-based payment facilities.
The Corporation’s WhatsApp number for property-tax-related payment services is 9445061913. Tax payments can also be made through the Corporation’s tax collectors.
Officials have urged property owners to complete their payments within the deadline to avoid the additional financial burden arising from delayed payment.
With September 30 being the deadline for the first half of 2026-27, property owners yet to make the payment have been advised to complete the process at the earliest.
